SARASOTA, FL (April 11, 2012) Honoring American Veterans, the Sarasota VA National Cemetery is one step closer to providing “a final resting place and lasting tribute” to those who have faithfully served our nation. West Coast FL Enterprises, a roofing company based in Fort Myers, has recently completed their contract at the Sarasota VA National Cemetery, providing all of the Alpine Light Gage Steel Trusses and steel decking on the Administration Building, Utility Building, Committal Building, and Committal Shelters A and B.
Sarasota VA National Cemetery is located in Sarasota County along State Road 72, approximately four miles east of Interstate 75. While cemetery burials began in late 2008, the cemetery staff is working from temporary facilities. When the entire ten year project is completed, interment areas will provide for nearly 18,200 full casket grave-sites, including 15,200 pre-placed crypts, 7,500 graves in-ground for cremated remains, approximately 7,200 columbarium niches, and a scattering garden. The cemetery will also include an administration and public information center complex with an electronic grave-site locator and public restrooms, a maintenance facility, a flag assembly area and a memorial walkway and donations area, as well as two committal shelters.

The VA reports that the new 295-acre national cemetery in the Sarasota area will serve veterans’ needs for the next 50 years.
